Bojangles’ restaurant was founded by Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1977. The founders were veteran restaurant operators who had insight into the growing demand for fast food by consumers especially when served in comfortable environment. They came up with three attributes on which they based the concept of Bojangles’. The attributes include making high quality products made from scratch, distinctive flavor and a festive restaurant design that showcases friendly quick-service environment. The restaurant offers regional fast food with specialties in fried chicken, Cajun seasoning and buttermilk buiscuits. In 1978, Bojangles’ opened its first franchised restaurant. In 1981, the restaurant made a landmark achievement as it recorded the highest restaurant sales average in the United States. People can still remember the incident of Hurricane Hugo that hit the United States in 1989. While other restaurants closed their operations, Bojangles’ remained open and this brought fame to the restaurant. In 2005, the first collect campus location was opened at Central Piedmont Community College. In 2007, Bojangles’ was rated No. 1 restaurant franchise in the chicken category by the Nations Restaurant News. The year 2008 was a big year for Bojangles’. It opens its first airport location in Charlotte, North Carolina. Also in the same year, it opened its 400th restaurant. The Wall Street Journal also named the restaurant as one of the “25 Franchise High Performers”. Only eight restaurant franchises were among the twenty five franchise high performance and Bojangles’ was one of them. In the year 2011, the restaurant locations hits 500 while it grew further to 600 locations in 2014. Bojangles’ was listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market in 2015.
