About Charleys Philly Steaks
Charleys Philly Steaks is an American quick-service sandwich restaurant chain founded by Charley Shin in Columbus, Ohio in 1986. Shin was able to open the first restaurant location known as Charley’s Steakery on a 450-square foot space which was very close to The Ohio State University campus. It would interest you to know that Shin was still an undergraduate at The Ohio State University when he opened the first location. The question that may then come to mind is, “how did he finance the opening of the restaurant?” Thanks for a good mother who was willing to risk her life saving of $48,000 in her son’s business. The restaurant was an instant success especially among the college students.
In 1991, the first franchised locations were rolled out. In 2002, the name of the restaurant was changed from Charley’s Steakery to Charley’s Grilled Subs. In 2012, the domestic locations of the restaurant were branded Charleys Philly Steaks. Over the years, the restaurant has expanded to about 600 locations across 46 states in the United States and in 17 countries. Charleys locations are usually at airports, shopping centers and strip centers. You can also find Charleys at Army base and Air Force base around the world. The restaurant is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, United States.
