Cracker Barrel is an American midscale family style restaurant chains founded by Dan Evins in Lebanon, Tennessee September 1969. Dan’s initial concept for the restaurant was to use it to attract highway travelers so as to drive his gasoline sales. The restaurant started by offering grits, biscuits, country ham and turnip greens. In February, Dan Evins officially registered Cracker Barrel and he was able to lease a landed property at a gasoline station to build restaurants very close to the interstate highways. In the same years, Evins succeeded in opening more locations. By 1977, Dan Edwin and other investors whom were majorly his local friends and associates, had grown the restaurant to 13 stores covering Kentucky and Georgia.
In 1981, Cracker’s stock was listed on the Stock Market in order to raise capital to finance its planned expansion. The stocks of the restaurant is traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market with CBRL as the trading ticker symbol. Cracker Barrel is listed among the S&P 400 Component. Today, the restaurant has expanded to more than 650 locations across the United States.
