Denny’s is an American midscale family style restaurant founded by Harold Butler and Richard Jezak in Lakewood, California in 1953. The name of the restaurant then was Danny’s Donuts. But in 1956, after Jezak’s departure, the name of the restaurant was changed to Danny’s Coffee Shops. Also, the coffee shops started 24 hours operation. After the name was changed, people tended to confuse Danny’s Coffee Shops with a LA restaurant, Coffee Dan’s. This made Butler to change the name again from Danny’s Coffee Shops to Denny’s Coffee Shops. This change took place in 1959.
