About In-N-Out Burger
In-N-Out Burger is an American restaurant chain founded by Harry Snyder and his wife Esther Snyder in Baldwin Park, California in 1948. In-N-Out Burger happened to be the first drive-through hamburger stand in California. While harry was fully in charge of the operation, Esther was responsible for the accounting function of the restaurant. Harry disrupted the fast food industry by introducing two-way speaker system serving as intercom which enabled customers to get “in and out” the hamburger stand without wasting time. Before then, the norm was drive-ins whereby the customers can park and have the carhops take their order and deliver their food.
It was in 1979 that In-N-Out Burger opened its first dining room restaurant. Since then, except for 13 restaurants, other restaurants were built with dining room offering large, open and comfortable areas for customers to sit down and enjoy their burgers. In-N-Out Burger made another landmark in 1984 when it opened In-N-Out University building. In-N-Out University is where the entry level managers receive training. Managers are taught on how to maintain high quality, cleanliness and good customer service.
By 1984, In-N-Out Burger opened its first restaurant without a drive-thru in Placentia, California. You can now find such In-N-Out restaurants without a drive-thru were in Laguna Hills, Glendale, Mill Valley and San Francisco (Fisherman’s Wharf).
Besides California, In-N-Out Burger has expanded to other locations such as Arizona, Utah and Texas while its headquarters remains at Irvine, California.
